Everton are in abysmal form right now and the Premier League side have called an emergency board meeting to discuss the future of manager Rafael Benitez.

The Toffees are currently on an eight match run without a win and they were thumped 4-1 at home by bitter rivals Liverpool on Wednesday night.

According to a report from Mirror, club director Marcel Brands has returned from Holland for the meeting and the club’s owner Farhad Moshiri is set to travel from the United states this weekend to meet with the board members.

It remains to be seen whether the Toffees decide to relieve Benitez of his duties before Monday’s Premier League clash against Arsenal.

Everton have a tricky fixture list during the festive period and they will have to face teams like Leicester City and Chelsea as well.

Apparently club owner Farhad Moshiri is ready to back Rafael Benitez despite the recent run of results.

The Spaniard has proven his pedigree in the Premier League in the past with Chelsea Liverpool and Newcastle United and there is no doubt that he is good enough to coach a club like Everton.

Benitez has had no backing in the transfer market at the start of the season and he is clearly suffering from the lack of depth in his side. Furthermore, Everton have had quite a few injuries to key players and it is no surprise that they are struggling to build any sort of rhythm since the start of the season.

It will be interesting to see if the Merseyside outfit manage to turn things around over the next few weeks and climb up the table with a few wins.

A club of their stature should be in the top half of the table at the very least but the Toffees currently find themselves closing in on the relegation spots.

Sacking Benitez prematurely might not be the wise decision right now and any manager would struggle with Everton’s injuries and lack of quality in the squad.

The side is in desperate need of reinforcements and the club hierarchy must look to do everything in their power to improve the team when the transfer window reopens in January.
