Bruno Fernandes was at the center in Manchester United‘s shocking 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa on 25th September in the sixth match week of the Premier League. With the Red Devils trailing by one goal in the final moments of the game, United was presented with a golden last-minute opportunity to level things.

Fernandes, given his reliable nature from 12 yards out, stepped up to take United home. Nevertheless, the Portuguese star failed miserably to level the scoreline, blazing the ball above the crossbar. He was visibly distraught following this mistake and penned a heartful note for his fans, regarding the same, later that day.

In his lengthy social media note, Fernandes thoroughly expressed his disappointment. The 27-year-old midfielder’s emotional message was met with a hoard of supporting replies, with fans and teammates rallying together to console him.

United star and Fernandes’ compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo was one of the first ones to show his compassion for the creative midfielder, posting ‘fist bump’ emoji as a comment to Fernandes’ Instagram post. Known for taking brilliant penalties, Ronaldo maturely supported his teammate in an hour of need, instead of fuming about a missed opportunity.

Several United players followed suit, with Jesse LingardDavid de Gea, and Anthony Martial commenting with red heart emojis to display their encouragement. Right-back Diogo Dalot posted a heartfelt message on the said message, writing, “With you every day of the week.”
