The Biancocelesti took on Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma in a mouthwatering Capital derby last night, with the latter succumbing to a 3-2 defeat.

Pedro, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Felipe Anderson were on target for Lazio while Giallorossi fought till the end but to no effect.

Sarri took charge as the new boss of Lazio in the summer, replacing Simone Inzaghi, who opted to join Inter Milan.

The former Chelsea boss enjoyed an impressive start but fell off suddenly after failing to register in any of the last three games prior to the derby.

However, Lazio proved to be the better side in the Capital derby and deserved to take home all three points.

On the other hand, Mourinho’s Roma, who had been impressive in Serie A this season, failed to get the better of their arch-rivals.

In the wake of Lazio’s big win, Italian media has heaped praises on Sarri, with outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport calling the former Napoli boss as special and eagle-eyed. Another Italian paper Tuttosport has called the derby a festival of goals. Gazzetta also describes Roma’s struggles and Mourinho’s frustration with the result.

Roma and Lazio are currently fourth and sixth in the league table, separated only by a point.

Sarri’s men will turn their focus towards Thursday’s Europa League clash against Lokomotiv Moscow while Roma will be playing in the Conference League.
