Ronaldo nearly doubles Messi’s shirt sales, Barcelona hurt by Messi’s exit

Ballon d'Or Leak - Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Virgil van Dijk are top contenders

Ronaldo’s record shirt sales

Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival at Manchester United has helped the Premier League club hit record-breaking shirt sales.

Apparently, the sales have hit a fee of around £187 million now and Ronaldo has the fastest-selling shirt in Premier League history.

Manchester United have already recovered the transfer fee they paid for the Portuguese superstar before he has kicked a ball.

The 36 year old is expected to make his debut this weekend against Newcastle United in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Lovethesales figure shows, Manchester United achieved 81% more shirt sales due to Cristiano Ronaldo than Paris Saint-Germain, which received similar boost in shirt sales due to Lionel Messi

Barcelona set to lose lucrative shirt sponsorship

Lionel Messi’s departure continues to haunt Barcelona on and off the pitch.

The Spanish giants have received a major financial blow after Japanese E-commerce giants Rakuten decided to end their lucrative shirt sponsorship with them.

Barcelona had a £47 million per season agreement in place with the E-commerce giants.

The Spanish outfit are already under tremendous financial pressure and the fact that lucrative sponsors are pulling out will only worsen the financial crisis at the club.

It will be interesting to see if the Spanish giants can sort out their economic position and get over this crisis.

Barcelona signed the lucrative deal with Rakuten back in 2017 and the two parties had a four-year agreement. However, the Japanese organisation is not keen on renewing the deal at the end of this season.

It is believed that Lionel Messi’s departure has been a key reason in sponsors pulling the plug.

It is evident that the Spanish La Liga’s commercial appeal has fallen after the departures of Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona are also reeling in its effects now.
