Aston Villa sacked Dean Smith after a disappointing start to the Premier League season and the Villans are now keen on appointing Rangers manager Steven Gerrard as his replacement.

According to the Sun,  Belgium national team manager Roberto Martinez is interested in taking over at Villa Park as well and it will be interesting to see who Aston Villa end up appointing as a new manager.

Steven Gerrard has done an exceptional job at Rangers since taking over at the Scottish club and he managed to break Celtic’s stranglehold on Scottish football by winning the title with the Ibrox giants last season.

Rangers have done well in the Europa League under the management of Gerrard as well and there is no doubt that the former Liverpool midfielder has the potential to develop into a top-class manager in future.

Aston Villa are in need of someone with fresh ideas and Gerrard could prove to be a wise appointment for them.

The Rangers manager is clearly lacking in experience but he has shown that he has the ability to perform under pressure.

Rangers were in the shadow of their bitter rivals Celtic for several years and the England international midfielder helped the Ibrox giants get back to the top of Scottish football once again.

Aston Villa are currently 16th in the Premier League table with just 10 points from 11 league games and they are just two points above the relegation zone.

The Premier League side have lost five league games in a row and it will be interesting to see if the new manager can come in and lift the spirits around the club and transform the results as well.
