Five possible replacements for Solskjaer at Manchester United

Tottenham vs Manchester United Preview - Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in press conference

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future at Manchester United is hanging by a thread following a disastrous start to the season. Despite enjoying a productive transfer window, the Norwegian manager has failed to deliver this season. Following the huge defeat against Liverpool, Solskjaer’s sack rumours began to circulate however the Red Devils decided to stick with him. However, the recent derby defeat against Manchester United has put a big question mark over his future. Although Solskjaer reportedly has the backing of United’s hierarchy and locker room, things could change if he fails to change the fortunes in the coming games. Here are the five managers who can replace the Norwegian at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag

Erik ten Hag is one of the exciting managers in Europe following his success with Ajax in recent years. He first gained mainstream attention after inspiring the Eredivisie giants to the Champions League semi-finals in the 2018/19 season. Now, he is trying to replicate the similar success in the UCL this season, with Ajax looking dominant in the group stages. Ten Hag has been recently linked with a move to Barcelona and Tottenham but both clubs have opted to sign Xavi and Antonio Conte respectively. Man Utd have a great opportunity to snap up the Dutch gaffer, who is a proponent of total football.

Mauricio Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino was a long time target for the Red Devils during his time at Tottenham Hotspur. The Argentine gaffer joined PSG last year and has been doing a decent job so far. Still, in the early days of his contract, it is highly unlikely that Les Parisiens would part ways with Pochettino.

Zinedine Zidane

Zinedine Zidane’s name is understood to be on the wishlist of the Red Devils to replace under-fire Solskjaer. The French manager has been without a job since leaving Real Madrid last summer. Zidane led Los Blancos to major trophies during his stint at the Spanish capital and has the calibre to replicate a similar success in the Premier League. He would also be excited to link up with his former proteges Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and his compatriot Paul Pogba, whom he tried to sign at Madrid.

Ralf Rangnick

Ralf Rangnick might appear as an odd name but his impressive spells at Schalke and Leipzig suggest that he could be a great addition to the Red Devils. A veteran manager, who also has top-class experience in management, Ragnick looks like a safe bet. However, the biggest question is whether he would be successful in a high-pressure league like Premier League. The 63-year-old was recently linked with a move to Newcastle United.

Brendan Rodgers

The current Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers is reportedly high on the wishlist of Man Utd. Even recent reports have stated that the Scottish gaffer has agreed to join the Red Devils at the end of this season. If this is true, United will get an exciting manager who has proved his critics wrong by making a seamless transition from Celtic to Leicester. Rodgers led the Foxes to a fifth-place finish in the Premier League in the last two seasons and the FA Cup title last season.
