Tottenham 2-1 Aston Villa: Heung-min Son shines as Spurs return to winning ways | EPL 2021-22

Son Heung-min-Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur ended their rough patch with a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa at home.

Spurs drew first blood after Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg found the back of the nets with a brilliant strike, with Heung-min Son providing the assist.

The second half was more open-ended as both sides created equal chances. Ollie Watkins levelled things up for Villans with a close-range goal in the 67th minute.

However, not long after, The North Londoners restored the lead after Lucas Moura’s strike took a deflection off Matt Targett before finding the nets.

Spurs had a couple of chances to put the game to bed but were to no effect. On the other hand, Dean Smith’s side ultimately failed to find the equaliser.

Heung-min Son takes the spotlight with a scintillating display

Heung Min Son continued his brilliant form in the Premier League this season as he played a helping hand in Spurs ending their win drought today. The South Korean star’s intimidating pace and trickery caused more problems to Villa’s defence, and he wrapped up the game with two assists. He has collected 3 goals and 2 assists to his name across all competitions this season. On top of everything, the 29-year-old is starting to take more responsibility when talisman Harry Kane is struggling by his side.

Kane’s goal drought continues.

Harry Kane has been under a lot of pressure due to his poor form this season. The English striker was expected to break his goal drought in the Premier League today after scoring a hat-trick in the Conference League days ago. However, that was not the case in the end. Kane looked more lively in the attack than in the previous games, but he squandered a couple of good chances. Kane’s rough patch has been quite a surprise given his quality and the fact he was Premier League’s top scorer last season.

Santo will be relieved to get three points.

Nuno Santo can breathe a sigh of relief after picking up crucial three points, having been winless in their last three Premier League games. The North Londoners were completely outplayed in those three defeats but today’s performance would give them more confidence moving forward. Spurs have moved to eighth in the table with 12 points and will face Newcastle after the international break.
