Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Atalanta defender Cristian Romero for weeks now, and it seems that the Premier League side have finally made a breakthrough.

According to reports, the Londoners have reached an agreement with the Italian side, and they will be paying a fee of around €50 million with add ons for the 23-year-old Argentine defender.

The defender has agreed on personal terms with the Premier League side, and he will sign a long term contract with them.

Romero is now expected to undergo his medical with the Premier League side in the coming days.

Spurs needed to improve their back four before the start of the season, and Romero should prove to be a quality long term signing for them.

The 23-year-old was the best defender in the Italian league last season, and he could prove to be a massive upgrade on the likes of Joe Rodon and Davinson Sanchez.

The Londoners have recently lost their best defender Toby Alderweireld, and they needed to bring in someone capable of replacing the Belgian.

Romero is already a key player for club and country, and he has the potential to develop into a world-class defender.

It will be interesting to see how the 23-year-old adapts to the Premier League now.

The Argentine helped his country win the Copa America 2021 this summer, and he will be looking forward to the challenge ahead of him in the Premier League.
