PSG 2-1 Marseille: Pochettino wins the first trophy of his career

Reims 0-2 PSG Icardi's brace seals third consecutive win for Tuchel's side

Les Parisiens defeat Marseille in Trophees Des Champions final to hand Pochettino his first trophy of the managerial career.

Paris St-Germain have defeated Marseille 2-1 to become the Trophees Des Champions of this season.

The game marked two important events, first one being the return of Neymar after he had been injured for months and secondly, Mauricio Pochettino’s first-ever trophy in his managerial career.

PSG found the lead right before the half-time through Mauro Icardi, who also had a goal ruled out due to offside.

Neymar entered the pitch in the 65th minute as a substitute for Angel Di Maria and he was able to impress with the limited time.

The Brazilian converted the penalty from the spot in the final few minutes of the game, which also turned out as the winning goal despite Marseille pulling one back through Payet’s strike minutes later.

With the win, PSG lifted the Trophees Des Champions title for the ninth time in the competition’s history and also the most by a club.

Neymar’s return would be a huge boost to Les Parisiens, with a handful of fixtures approaching. Icardi must be feeling confident after finding the nets in a long time. The Argentine had been frozen out of the squad before his compatriot Pochettino’s arrival to the French Capital.

On top of everything, Pochettino was able to taste his first-ever trophy in his managerial career, having previously managed clubs like Tottenham, Southampton and Espanyol.
