The Dutch manager has given the names that he failed to sign during his time at Old Trafford.

Louis van Gaal stepped in as the manager of Manchester United in 2014, succeeding David Moyes at that time, and was replaced by Jose Mourinho after two seasons.

During his tenure, Van Gaal led the Red Devils to a fourth-place finish in the Premier League and FA Cup title.

Now the former Netherland senior team gaffer has revealed the names that he tried to sign during his time at Man Utd but ultimately let down by Ed Woodward.

Robert Lewandowski & Gonzalo Higuain

Van Gaal has said that he tried to sign both the strikers upon his arrival to Old Trafford. Lewandowksi had just moved to Bayern Munich during that time, and Higuain was enjoying a good goal scoring form at Napoli.

Neymar, Mane and Mahrez

Van Gaal said, “Before I had arrived, I also spoke with the board about Neymar. If you are at United, you have to think big. He was also interesting for the club in terms of selling shirts, and I wanted to have quick wingers. For that reason, I also tried to get Sadio Mane and Riyad Mahrez.

Neymar had just settled in at Barcelona, who fought tooth and nails with Real Madrid for his signature. Mane and Mahrez were in their formative years during that time.

Thomas Muller and Ngolo Kante

Van Gaal said, “Thomas Muller was on my wish list, too, and in central midfield, I wanted N’Golo Kanté.
