Bologna 1-2 Milan: Milan survive late scare to secure 3-points, Rebic and Kessie score

Frank Kessie-AC Milan

Goals from Ante Rebic and Franck Kessie helped Milan beat tough-looking Bologna.

AC Milan returned to the winning ways as they edged out Bologna 1-2 in a tense Serie A away game.

Milan rightfully deserved the lead after dominating the opening minutes of the game. Zlatan Ibrahimovic failed to convert his penalty, but Ante Rebic was there to score on the rebound.

Bologna looked dangerous in the closing minutes of the first half but thanks to Rossoneri goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who thwarted the visitors from finding the net with a string of crucial saves.

Ibrahimovic was fouled inside the penalty box earlier on in the second-half and Franck was accurate with his strike to give Milan a two-goal cushion.

Bologna created more pressure lately which resulted in a goal from substitute Andrea Pol in the 81st minute. However, the hosts failed to find the equaliser as Milan came out as winners in the end.

The win allowed Milan to attain a five-point lead at the top of the Serie A table, with arch-rivals Inter Milan trailing them.

Stefano Pioli’s men had been under quite a little pressure following back to back defeats against Atalanta and Inter Milan, with the latter one coming in the quarter-finals of Coppa Italia. Now the win against Bologna could help them gain back their form.

Pioli offered his thoughts on the win: “You have to sweat for every single point. Without the naïve error on Bologna’s goal, we would’ve had a very good game. We created a great deal and played well. I am happy with the performance and a victory that gives us more confidence at the end of a difficult week. Victories must be earned.”
