Golden Boy Award 2020: Haaland on Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic; Lewandowski praise

Erling Haaland-Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland scooped up the 2020 Golden Boy award last month and he picked up his trophy earlier in the week.

The Norwegian striker beat the likes of Ansu Fati and Alphonso Davies to the award. His club teammate Jadon Sancho was 4th on the list.

Haaland is only 20 years old but he has managed to establish himself as one of the most accomplished finishers in European football right now.

The striker joined the German club from RB Salzburg in January and he has managed to score 23 times in the Bundesliga so far.

Only Robert Lewandowski and Cristiano Ronaldo have scored more goals in Europe’s top five leagues since Haaland moved to Dortmund.

Speaking to the media after picking up his award, the striker explained he was bewitched watching the likes of Ronaldo on TV and that the Juventus star is one of his idols.

He also admitted that Bayern Munich are the best team in the world right now and he wants to win the Champions League.

He said (regarding Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic): “Two champions, two phenomena. I was bewitched seeing them on TV. They are the idols of many footballers – including me, too. They are examples to imitate for the continuity that allows them to remain at the highest level for so many years.”

Meanwhile Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski heaped praise on Erling Haaland after the 20-year-old scooped up the Golden Boy award this week.

The 32-year-old revealed that Haaland deserves his award and he is looking forward to the competition with a quality striker like him this season.

He said: “He deserves it, I am happy he is playing here in Germany, it will be very interesting to see this confrontation between us.”
