Everton 0-2 Newcastle: Callum Wilson double helps Newcastle end their losing streak

Wilson rose to the occasion as Magpies stunned Everton at Goodison Park.

Callum Wilson is the man of the hour for Newcastle United as he scored a brace to stun Everton 2-0 at Goodison Park.

The Magpies have also ended their purple patch – 10 matches without a win – with the victory against the Toffees.

Wilson put a top-notch display, scoring a brace against the hosts to register his tenth goal of the season. The former Bournemouth broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute before doubling his tally in the injury time.

The 28-year-old also kept the Toffees keeper busy throughout the game, forcing a couple of saves and also had a shot hit the woodworks, which could have been his third goal.

Meanwhile, Everton lacked creativity from the middle of the park although James Rodriguez and Richarlison came close to finding the nets in the first half. Midfielder Sigurdsson was also kept at bay as he found it difficult to break down the compact defence of Newcastle.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side’s fluctuating form continues but today’s home defeat could impact their morale going forward. The Toffees currently sit at seventh in the table, sharing the same points as Tottenham.

Steve Bruce, who was under immense pressure, would be relieved to see his side break the shackles after a long drought. The Magpies are 16th in the table as they will now look to build on this emphatic win.
