The striker duo wreaked havoc on Lazio’s defence in an emphatic 3-1 win.

Inter Milan are the new leaders of Serie A table after defeating in-form Lazio 3-1 at San Siro.

While both AC Milan and Juventus dropped points in their respective weekend fixtures, Inter were presented with a massive opportunity to climb to the first place however, they were up against Simone Inzaghi’s side, who had won all of their last six games.

Romelu Lukaku put the home side ahead from the spot after a controversial penalty was awarded in favour of diving Lautaro Martinez.

The Belgian striker doubled his tally at the end of the half-time, although the strike was disallowed at first due to offside, VAR overturned in favour of Nerazzurri.

Lazio pulled back one through Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s deflected free-kick and when everyone thought the Biancocelesti had bought some time for a come-back, Inter poured cold water into their plans minutes later.

Lukaku lead Inter’s counter with an amazing burst of pace before teeing up fellow striker Martinez for his first goal of the night.

Inter have taken full advantage of the slump from both Juve and AC Milan and thus climbed to the top of the table.

It remains to be seen how long Inter can hold on to this lead in what looks like a thrilling title race.

Inter will play Stefano Pioli’s men next week and the result of the derby will have a major say on the title race.
