Juventus handed three points after Napoli failed to show up

Napoli have been declared forfeit after not showing up to the game against Juventus.

The Serie A fixture between Juventus and Napoli has been abandoned, with the latter one not appearing for the game due to COVID fears.

Napoli were advised not to take part in the game after two of their players tested positive for Coronavirus. There were doubts on whether the game would proceed after the entire Napoli squad was asked to be isolated.

However, Serie A stuck with the decision that the match would happen as planned while turning down the request of Napoli to postpone the game.

With the Partenopei failing to show up for the clash at Turin, Juventus are set to be awarded three points, stated by the protocols.

“The protocol lays down certain rules that cannot be deviated from, which allow league matches to be played even in the event of a positive result, deploying players who have tested negative.”

Juventus perhaps are also currently in a bubble after two of their staff recently tested positive for the virus.

Napoli also hosted Genoa last week in Serie A despite 17 members of the visiting team testing positive.

As per the rules, Serie A would consider the appeal for rescheduling only if ten members of the squad turns out positive for the virus.

It remains to be seen how Napoli would react to the decision as they were not allowed to travel to Turin at the request of local authorities.
