Juventus turned down the opportunity to sign the Uruguayan international Edinson Cavani earlier this summer.

According to reports, Manchester United offered them the chance to sign the former Paris Saint-Germain striker after sealing the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, the Italian outfit decided to turn down the opportunity because of the player’s massive wages.

Apparently, Cavani is on wages of around £250,000 a week and Juventus who are not keen on shelling out big wages for the striker.

The Italian outfit were already looking to lower their wage bill this summer and that is one of the main reasons why they sanctioned Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure.

The Portuguese superstar was on massive wages at the Italian club and Juventus were struggling financially as the revenue streams started to dry up because of the pandemic.

Furthermore, the Italian Serie A club have changed the transfer policy and they are looking to sign younger players and therefore the addition of Cavani would not have made sense.

Meanwhile, the Uruguayan international striker was lauded for his classy gesture earlier this week.

The 34-year-old agreed to hand over his number 7 shirt to Cristiano Ronaldo and the player will now wear the number 21 shirt for Manchester United this season.

It will be interesting to see if the player can force his way into the starting lineup especially now that the Portuguese superstar has arrived at Old Trafford. A player of his calibre will not want to sit on the bench every week.
