The Italian forward has been wanted by the Spanish giants Barca.

Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne has responded to the rumours linking him with Barcelona.

The 30-year-old, who is currently with the Italian national team in Euros, has only a year left in his contract, and the Partenopei could be forced to sell him this summer if he disagrees on a contract extension. La Liga giants Barca are trying to take advantage of the situation as they have added Insigne to their summer wishlist.

It has also been reported that Insigne is unwilling to take a pay cut as he has rejected a new offer lower than his current salary.

Napoli failed to qualify for the Champions League on the final matchday of Serie A, which led to the sacking of Gennaro Gattuso, with whom Insigne shares a great relationship.

Gattuso’s departure, coupled with the prospect of playing in the Europa League, would have made Insigne consider his future at his boyhood. He also gave a tentative reply when asked about interest from Barca.

Insigne said: “I have no regrets; I’ve fulfilled my dreams to play for Napoli and be the captain of the team. I am more than happy. Now I am focused on the Euros, and then I’ll talk to the club.”

The Partenopei star is turning out to be an integral part of Italy’s attack, and he has already made a great impression in the group stage of Euros, scoring the curtain-raiser against Turkey. He is coming back of a productive season in Serie A, mustering 19 goals and 7 assists.
