Salernitana

After surviving Serie A relegation last season, Salernitana will look to begin the new season on a positive note when they welcome AS Roma to Salerno on Sunday.

The hosts were one of the clubs thought to be set to be relegated to Serie B following a poor start to the season that saw them lose their opening four matches of the season. But they miraculously survived and made a mockery of the unwanted record they set when they spent 33 matchdays in the Serie A relegation zone last term.

Their survival was down to a seven-game unbeaten run they put up (W3, D3) – which included three consecutive SA wins for the first time in their history – before a heavy 4-0 defeat on a crucial final day of the season.

Having begun the previous season poorly, coach Davide Nicola will be desperate for his side to start on a better note and avoid falling behind in the race for survival too early in the season.

Possible Salernitana starting line-up

Luigi Sepe; Norbert Gyömbér, Federicoo Fazio,Lorenzo Pirola; Wajdi Kechrida, Lassana Coulibaly, Leonardo Capezzi, Grigoris Kastanos, Pasquale Mazzocchi; Franck Ribery, Federico Bonazzoli.

Injured: Emil Bohinen, Domagoj Bradaric, Matteo Lovato, Paweł Jaroszyński

Doubtful: Ivan Radovanovic

Suspended: None

AS Roma

Following their triumph in the UEFA Europa Conference League and a top-six finish last season, AS Roma will look to build on the work they have done this season.

Jose Mourinho’s side have brought some experienced players this summer with the arrival of Nemanja Matic, Paulo Dybala and Georginio Wijnaldum, getting the Roma fans excited about the prospect of an unlikely title fight.

Following a positive pre-season, which saw them overcome Tottenham Hotspur and thrash Shakhtar Donetsk 5-0 in their final pre-season match inside a sold-out Stadio Olimpico, there is enough confidence flowing in this team.

They will be desperate to translate their preseason form to the league and will fancy their chances of doing so given that they won their opening three league matches last season, including a whopping 4-0 win here.

Possible AS Roma starting line-up

Rui Patricio; Gianluca Mancini, Chris Smalling, Roger Ibanez; Rick Karsdorp, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Nemanja Matic, Nicola Zalewski, Paulo Dybala, Nicolo Zaniolo; Tammy Abraham.

Injured: Ebrima Darboe, Ruben Providence

Doubtful: Nicola Zalewski

Suspended: None
