Tottenham 1-3 Liverpool: Thiago led Liverpool to win after five Premier League matches

Thiago Alcantara-Liverpool

Liverpool picked up a 3-1 win over Tottenham in the Premier League earlier tonight.

The Reds are now back into the top four and Jurgen Klopp will be delighted with the performance of his players.

The Champions came into this game needing a win after their recent run of form and the players managed to step up and get the job done.

Liverpool were dominant from start to finish and they played with an intent to pick up all three points.

Roberto Firmino gave Liverpool their lead at the stroke of half time and the Reds could have easily scored more goals in the first half had Sadio Mane not missed a couple of easy chances.

The home side managed to put the ball into the net before Liverpool through Son Heung-Min but his goal was ruled out because of offside.

Trent Alexander-Arnold doubled Liverpool’s advantage two minutes into the second half but the Londoners got back into the game soon after when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg scored from outside the box with a thundering effort.

Mohamed Salah seemed to put the game beyond Tottenham’s reach with a fantastic finish but his goal was ruled out because of Roberto Firmino’s handball during the build-up.

The Reds did manage to seal the game with the third goal of the night when Sadio Mane converted from a world-class cross by Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Both teams were dealt an injury blow at half time and while Spurs struggled to recover from it, Liverpool coped and managed to grind out the result. Joel Matip and Harry Kane were taken off due to injuries.

The win tonight leaves Liverpool with 37 points from 20 matches and Tottenham have 33 points from 19 matches.
