Tottenham slip to a surprise 1-0 defeat to Royal Antwerp

Jose Mourinho-Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham crashed to a 1-0 defeat against Royal Antwerp in the Europa League earlier today.

The home side took the lead on the 29th minute and despite wholesale changes at half time, Mourinho’s men failed to get back into the game.

The Premier League outfit will be thoroughly disappointed with their performance tonight.

They were favourites heading into the game and they should have picked up all three points.

Jose Mourinho will be hoping to secure qualification to the knockout rounds as soon as possible so that he can rest his key players for the gruelling schedule ahead and tonight’s defeat will come as a hammer blow for the Portuguese manager and his team.

It will be interesting to see how Tottenham bounce back from this in their next outing.

A team of their quality should be winning these games with ease. They had managed to win their opening European game against LASK comfortably.

As for the home side, they will be delighted with the result and their defensive organisation tonight.

Royal Antwerp did well to take the lead and they defended with everything they had after that.

Tottenham had the likes of Dele Alli, Vinicius, Gareth Bale, Son and Kane on the pitch during various periods of the game but they failed to breakdown the home side’s organisation.

The fans would have expected a lot better from the London side and Tottenham will be under pressure to step up and turn it around at the weekend now.
