Lucky Liverpool grind out 1-0 away win against Ajax in Champions League

Liverpool picked up a 1-0 win over Ajax in the Champions League earlier today.

The Reds did well to grind out a result despite all the adversity and Jurgen Klopp will be delighted with his team’s performance tonight at Johan Cruyff Arena.

The Reds were missing key players like Alisson, Van Dijk, Matip, Thiago and Keita.

Sadio Mane helped create the opening goal for Liverpool but it was the Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico who handed the Reds their lead with an own goal.

The home side came close to scoring three times over the course of the 90 minutes but Liverpool did well to keep the ball out of the net.

Liverpool keeper Adrian came up with a couple of errors but Ajax failed to convert from them.

The Dutch outfit will be disappointed to have lost the opening group game at home especially when Liverpool were there for the taking.

The Reds looked vulnerable throughout the game and they could have easily lost on another day.

Today’s win will give Liverpool a lot of confidence and it will be interesting to see if they can build on this and get back to winning ways in the Premier League against Sheffield United at the weekend.

Liverpool have had a tough time with the thrashing against Aston Villa and the couple of injuries they picked up against Everton. Today’s win will certainly lift the spirits around the club and it remains to be seen if Klopp can get his key players back in action soon.
