The former Manchester United star has insisted Citizens’ boss to win the Champions League this season.

The former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola should win the Champions League whether he intends or not.

Ferdinand said, “He has been brought in by their owners specifically to win the Champions League, whether he likes it or not”

The former Three Lions praised the Spaniard for what he had done to the Citizens domestically while asking him not to be a self defendant in case of the Champions League failure.

Ferdinand also weighed in on Guardiola’s Champions League hoodoo, singling out the reason that he had higher standards at his previous stops – Barcelona and Bayern Munich – when compared to Man City.

The 41-year-old added, “He was probably more successful at Bayern Munich than he has been at City but the fact he didn’t win the Champions League in Germany will always taint his time there.”

“That is due to the level he has operated at in the past and the standards he set himself at Barcelona. I think it would be the same if this was to happen again at City.”

Man City have progressed to the quarter-finals of UCL this season, beating Real Madrid in the previous tie.

Guardiola believes that the current City squad can win the Champions League title this season and had also heaped praises on Gabriel Jesus

Sky Blues will face Lyon in the quarter-finals this Saturday.
