The Argentine’s contract with the Blaugrana has expired.

Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi has had his current deal expired on June 30, and the concerned parties are yet to pen a deal. That makes Messi a free agent. The idea of Messi being available on ‘free transfer’ has taken the internet by storm.

Although various reports suggest that it is only a matter of time before the Argentine pens a new contract, Ligue 1 giants PSG have come up with a late offer.

The French giants have been long interested in Messi, and it was also reported that they were the only club that can afford the high-salary demands of the Argentine.

Paris-Saint Germain have been one of the proactive sides in the current transfer window, confirming the deals for Georginio Wijnaldum, Gianluigi Donnarumma and most recently Real Madrid skipper Sergio Ramos.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are clearly pushing for the long-evading Champions League, and they feel the addition of Messi could make them even more potent.

Elsewhere, Messi has slowly leaned towards the prospect of continuing at the Nou Camp despite creating an uproar by stating his desire to leave last summer.

Blaugrana president Joan Laporta has been key in convincing Messi to stay after reportedly presenting a sounding project unlike his predecessor Bartomeu.

Laporta has often iterated that he remains confident about Messi’s contract extension, which will reportedly run for two more years. He also deployed a great strategy by signing Messi’s long time friend and compatriot Sergio Aguero as a free agent from Manchester City.

The six-time Ballon d’Or winner is currently away with the Argentine national team for Copa America. The announcement of his new deal could be expected after the end of the tournament.
