Barcelona have been relegated to Europa League after the defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Barcelona have suffered a shock elimination from the UEFA Champions League after a 3-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the final group stage game last night.

The Catalans have had to beat Bayern, or Benfica should lose against Kyiv in order to progress to the knockouts. However, none of that happened, and now they are set to play in Europa League.

Barca’s elimination from the group stage was their first since the 2000-01 UCL campaign when they finished third behind AC Milan and Leeds United.

It is turning out to be a disastrous season for the Catalan giants, as they are seventh in La Liga table with 23 points.

New manager Xavi’s impressive start was flattering to deceive, as he suffered back to back losses against Real Betis and Bayern.

The Spaniard spoke about Barca’s relegation to Europa League, stating that he had to face the harsh reality.

However, the former Al Sadd manager insisted that Barcelona would start with a clean start from now onwards.

“I’m angry. This is the reality and it pisses me off. We have to tackle it face on. There’s nothing else for it. A new era starts today. We start from zero.

“Barça’s objective is the Champions League, not the Europa League. But our reality now is the Europa League and we have to go all the way and win it. This is Barça’s goal – to win every game and win every title.”

Thomas Muller criticizes Barca’s lack of intensity.

Thomas Muller was one of the top performers against Barca last night and he also scored the opening goal.

The Bayern Munich star has criticized the Catalans after the win, claiming that they don’t have the intensity to compete at the highest level.

The German playmaker said (h/t Mirror): “I think Barça can’t cope with the intensity.

Technically, they have it all, they are great players tactically and technically. But they can’t cope with the intensity in top football.”
