Arsenal 1-1 Slavia Prague: Visitors seal dramatic draw to cancel out Nicolas Pepe’s strike

Nicolas Pepe-Arsenal

The first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals between Arsenal and Prague saw a dramatic end, with the latter scoring a last-gasp equaliser.

Arsenal were held to a 1-1 by Slavia Prague in a thrilling quarter-final first leg, with Holes netting a last-minute equaliser.

It was a sedate first half from the Gunners who struggled to find the breakthrough.

However, they grew into the game especially in the second half as they hit the woodwork twice.

Alexandre Lacazette was presented with a huge opportunity around the hour-mark when Slavia Prague’s Oscar Dorley made a terrible mistake by losing the ball high up the pitch. The French striker was then left one on one with the goalkeeper but he only managed to hit the frame of the goal.

Nicolas Pepe, who was brought in as a replacement for Bukayo Saka, made a quick impact by breaking the deadlock in the 85th minute.

However, Arsenal’s reckless defending in the final few minutes combined with Slavia Prague’s relentless search for a reply, helped the Czech side find the equaliser in the stoppage time after centre-back Tomas Holes netted a header from a corner kick.

Gunners manager Mikel Arteta cut a frustrated figure on the sidelines after seeing his side concede a goal in the dying seconds of the game.

The North Londoners had quite a few chances gone begging in the second half – same goes to Prague – but luckily they found the opener through Pepe.

However, they looked disorganised after that strike which allowed the Czech side to come up with a vital away goal in the eleventh hour.
