The Three Lions picked up a scrappy win against Romania on Sunday.

England faced off Romania in a friendly game on Sunday and managed to pick up only a scrappy win.

Marcus Rashford, who was captain for the day, scored the only goal through penalty after Jack Grealish was fouled inside the box.

The game also witnessed Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson, who made his return after sustaining an injury in February, missing a penalty.

Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate was surprised to see Dominic Calvert Lewin didn’t take the penalty despite winning it.

Rashford and James Ward Prowse were the designated penalty takers but both got substituted in the second half, allowing Henderson to assume the captaincy role.

The Reds midfielder went on to take the penalty, which Calvert Lewin won, but missed it eventually.

Southgate offered his thoughts on the missed penalty, stating that the situation won’t be repeated next time.

“I was expecting Dominic to take it and when Hendo walked over I thought he was making sure that happened, so I will have to check what happened,”

“We will pull rank next time.”

“Marcus and James Ward-Prowse were the two nominated at the start of the game and they’d both come off. But Hendo was the captain on the field by then. He was the one to make the decision. If I was Dom as the centre-forward I might not have gone along with that so easily.”

Southgate also admitted his side wasn’t at its best and has to up the ante ahead of Euro 2020.

“I don’t think we were as good as we want to be, or that we need to be.

In the first half we used the ball reasonably well, our best moments were coming down the left, we needed to get the ball from right to left more urgently.

“We were a bit slow moving the ball, and in the final third we didn’t quite select the right pass or ran into traffic when we had a chance to create clearer opportunities.”
