Switzerland 1-1 Spain: Sommer saved Ramos penalty twice

Sergio Ramos-Spain

Spain were held to a 1-1 draw against Switzerland in the UEFA Nations League group game and they will be disappointed to have dropped two points here.

A win here could have taken them to the top of the table above Germany but they are now second in the group with eight points from five matches.

Meanwhile, Switzerland are at the bottom of the group with just three points from five matches and they have failed to win a single game in the group stage so far.

Remo Freuler gave Switzerland their lead on the 26th minute and Gerard Moreno bagged the equaliser on the 89th minute to save the blushes for Spain.

This match would be memorable for Sergio Ramos as he saved a ball from goal line to save his side from further blushes, when Spain was trailing to Switzerland 0-1.

Later he missed two penalties within 20 minutes time. Yann Sommer spotted the similar attempts from the Spanish and Real Madrid captain, early to keep 1-0 lead.

Spain were the better team heading into the game and they will be disappointed with the outcome here.

The away side have won just two of their last five matches and they should have done better.

It will be interesting to see if the Spanish side can improve in the coming months and climb above Germany in the table.

As for Switzerland they will be hoping to get their first win of the group stages out of the way sooner rather than later.

The fans will be expecting a strong reaction from the players in the coming matches and it will be interesting to see if the Swiss side can step up and deliver.
