Syria

Syria will look to keep their faint hopes of playing in the 2022 FIFA World Cup alive when they play South Korea on Tuesday.

Syria come into this tie on the back of a 2-0 loss to the United Arab Emirates. Goals from Caio Canedo and Yahya Al Ghassani gave UAE the win and kept Syria’s wait for a win in this qualifier campaign going for another game.

Valeriu Tita’s men are currently rooted at the bottom of the table, having taken just two points from their opening seven games (D2, L5). They can still qualify for a place in the World Cup via the playoffs.

However, their chances of doing so is hinged on their ability to win their remaining three games while hoping that UAE and Lebanon do not win any games.

The chances of that happening is very slim, though, given that Syria have won just one of their last 12 games (D2, L9).

Possible Syria starting line-up

Ibrahim Alma; Omar Midani, Amro Jenyat, Abdullah Al Shami, Youssef Mohammad; Mahmoud Al-Mawas, Tamer Haj Mohamad, Ward Al Salama, Fahd Youssef; Omar Khribin, Omar Al Somah.

South Korea

South Korea will look to book a place in the World Cup when they face Syria in Dubai on Tuesday.

The visitors are currently sitting second in Group A, eight points behind UAE in third. A win in this game will qualify them automatically for the November showpiece.

South Korea are unbeaten in this WCQ campaign (W5, D2) and so will come into this tie confident of taking maximum points.

They come into this tie fresh from a 1-0 win over Lebanon. The win was their third consecutive win in the WCQ’s and was also their tenth win in their last 12 games.

Possible South Korea starting line-up

Kim Seung-Gyu; Kim Young-Gwon, Lee Yong, Hong Chul, Kim Jin-Su; Kwon Chang-Hoon, Paik Seung-Ho, Kim Jin-Kyu; Cho Gue-Sung, Song Min-Kyu, Lee Dong-Jun.
