Kerala Blasters 2-2 NorthEast United: NorthEast mount late comeback to steal a point

Costa Nhamoinesu-Kerala Blasters

Kerala Blasters were held to a 2-2 draw against NorthEast United earlier in the Indian Super League today.

Sergio Cidoncha and Gary Hooper scored in the first half to give Kerala a well-deserved lead but the Highlanders managed to fight back in style in the second half.

Kwesi Appiah brought NorthEast United back into the game with a 51st-minute strike and then Idrissa Sylla scored on the 90th minute to ensure a point for the Highlanders.

Kerala will be disappointed to have dropped two points here especially after the kind of start they made to the game.

They went ahead in the 5th minute and dominated the first half comfortably. Gary Hooper’s strike gave them a healthy advantage on the 45th minute. Kerala could have been 3-0 ahead but Hooper missed a sitter around the 23rd minute of the game.

The Highlanders were quite impressive in the second half of the game and they could have easily won on another day.

Kwesi Appiah had the chance to score the leveller on the 65th minute. Lalengmawia was brought down in the box by Jessel Carneiro in the second half but Kwesi Appiah missed his spot-kick and hit the crossbar instead of finding the net.

NorthEast United remain unbeaten after two games and they will be quite happy with the come back here.

Kerala Blasters will have to improve defensively if they want to do well in the Indian Super League this year and it will be interesting to see how the players bounce back in their next outing now.
