Melbourne Victory

After a bottom-placed finish that saw them win the wooden spoon of the 2020/21 A-League season, Melbourne Victory are back in the league looking to make amends this season.

The hosts began the league season with a 1-0 win over Western United, thanks to a 75th-minute goal by Portuguese defender Roderick Miranda. The result leaves them within the top three after the first weekend of games and gives them the platform to build.

Aside from winning their first league game of the season, Tony Popovic’s side also defeated Perth Glory on penalties in the FFA in midweek after playing a 1-1 draw in regular time.

The win made it two wins in two for Victory, who will look to add a third win in as many games when they welcome the Roar to Melbourne in Game-week two.

Possible Melbourne Victory starting line-ups

Ivan Kelava; Jason Davidson, Roderick, Brendan Hamill, Jason Geria; Merchan Rai, Ben Folami, Leigh Broxham, Cristopher Ikonomidis; Jake Brimmer, Nicholas D’Agostino.

Brisbane Roar

After tasting defeat in their opening game of the season, Brisbane Roar will travel to Melbourne this weekend looking to get back to winning ways.

The visitors were beaten 2-1 by Melbourne City in the first round, leaving them rooted at the bottom of the table on goal difference at the end of the first round. First-half goals from defender Curtis Good and Connor Metcalfe did the damage, with a late Luke Ivanovic goal only serving as a consolation for the Roar.

They will look to bounce back on their second return to Melbourne in as many games.

With three wins in their last three visits to the AAMI Park, Warren Moon’s men will be confident of winning this tie and push themselves back into the top half of the table where they truly belong.
