Premier League

History

On February 20, 1992, the Premier League, also known as the English Premier League or EPL, was created. It is English football’s highest level. It is contested by 20 clubs and is based on the promotion and relegation structure used in the English Football League.

With 4.7 billion viewers around the world, Premier League is the Most-Watched sports league in the world. Since the Premier League’s establishment in 1992, 49 clubs have competed: 47 English clubs and two Welsh clubs. Seven of them have been crowned champions.
Format
In season 20 teams participate and play in a double round-robin format where each team faces all their opponents twice, in the home and away games. A total of 38 games are played, and they rank based on total points, goal differential and goals scored are used to rate teams. Teams are considered to be in the same place if they are all equal. A play-off match at a neutral site determines rank if there is a tie for the title, promotion, or qualification to other competitions.
Number of teams
The Premier League features 20 teams every season. At the end of the season, the bottom three teams are relegated to the second division, while the top three teams in the second division take their place.
Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool, Everton and Chelsea have never been relegated since Premier League’s foundation in 1992.
Top Teams
Since its establishment in 1992, only seven teams have won the competition, with Manchester United winning a record 13 times.
Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City are the top 3 teams in Premier League’s history.

Top Rivalries
Manchester Derby- Manchester City vs Manchester United:
Previously, the Manchester Derby was one-sided favouring Manchester United; now, Manchester City seems to have been taken, and there has been a strong power change in Manchester. Manchester City dominated both the Manchester derbies of last season but, as we all know, Manchester United can never be counted out, and with both teams looking as good as they have in years, this rivalry might very well be the gold mine in the recent future.
North London Derby- Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspurs:
Arsenal and Tottenham compete in this derby from North London. For the better half of the last two decades, Arsenal has dominated North London. It’s recently when Tottenham have started gaining their weights against Arsenal. Yet so Arsenal defeated Tottenham 4-2 in the last season.
The Reds VS The Red Devil- Liverpool vs Manchester United:
When Manchester United and Liverpool face each other, it is referred to as a North-West derby. It is the most critical sporting event of the year and the most-watched competition, surpassing the El Classico and the UCL final. Both the teams have seen their fair share of win and this makes the match more nail-biting for the fans. Liverpool won 3-1 against United in the last fixture.
Premier League 19-20
Liverpool won the Premier League in 2019/20, with 99 points from 38 games played. Bournemouth, Watford, and Norwich City were the teams relegated to the EFL Championship. Jamie Vardy (Leicester City) scored the most goals in the Premier League this season, with 23, while Ederson ended with the cleanest sheets of 13.
