Messi could return to Barca in 2023.

Lionel Messi secured a free transfer to PSG in the summer after failing to sign a new contract with Barcelona due to financial restrictions.

However, the Argentine’s time at the French capital club has been so far a disappointing one as he is yet to open his account in Ligue 1 this season. The 34-year-old is clearly struggling to replicate the otherworldly consistency he enjoyed at Barca over the years.

According to Sport Bible, the six-time Ballon d’Or winner could make a return to the Nou Camp in 2023 on a free transfer.

Messi is currently tied to a contract at Paris Saint-Germain until 2023 with an option for another year.

The report also states that newly-appointed Barca manager Xavi would be crucial for the deal as he wants to reunite with the Argentine talisman.

Messi and Xavi were part of the Blaugrana side that lifted the continental treble twice in the last decade.

President Laporta opens the door for Dani Alves’ return

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has opened the door for a potential return of Brazilian defender Dani Alves.

The 38-year-old has offered himself to Barca after terminating his contract with Sao Paulo months ago.

Alves, who recently won the Gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics with Brazil, established himself as one of the world’s decorated players during his eight year spell at the Nou Camp.

Laporta has stated that Alves could make a return to the Catalan club if Xavi wants.

Laporta said: “Dani Alves helped the club in a number of ways – and he has offered us his help from a sporting point of view as well.

“Like with (former captain Carles) Puyol, there is a very direct relationship. They can help if Xavi needs it.”
