The entire squad value of the Catalans has decreased by 484m euros in just three years.

It is safe to say that Barcelona’s heydays are long gone as they are now a club in transition.

Only one Copa del Rey title in the last two seasons means that the Catalans have lost their dominance in the Spanish first division.

Barca’s financial state with over mounting debts has been detrimental over the last two seasons and they experienced one of the whirlwind summer transfer windows.

Blaugrana president Joan Laporta had earlier stated that the club’s financial state was worse than anyone could ever imagine. The legendary Lionel Messi was also forced to part ways with his boyhood club because of La Liga’s salary cap concerns.

Barca managed to bring in the likes of Eric Garcia, Memphis Depay and Sergio Aguero but all the three were registered as new signings only after Gerard Pique took a pay-cut.

According to a new report, Barca’s squad value has been reduced from 1.16b euros to 676m euros in the space of just three years.

The current crop of Barca players aren’t short of quality but they are nowhere near the ones that inspired the club to the treble in the 2014/15 season and if you wind back the clock a little, Pep Guardiola’s dream team in 2011/12 season.

One instance that would sum up the club’s situation is letting go of Antoine Griezmann on the deadline day to Atletico and instead signed a less-competent striker Luuk de Jong on loan. Not to mention, the transfer of Emerson Royal to Tottenham months after he was announced as a new Barca player.

Ronald Koeman’s side currently lacks superstars and seasoned players like Sergio Busquets and Gerard Pique are in the twilight of their careers.

However, Barca still boast some of the finest young talents who are brimming with confidence.

The Catalans have gotten off to a good start in La Liga this season with 2 wins and a draw in three games.
