Six possible destinations for David Alaba

David-Alaba-Bayern-Munich

Bayern Munich defender David Alaba is one of the sought-after players in the market as he is likely to leave Allianz Arena, with his contract ending next summer. Bayern chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge also stated that a deal regarding extension wasn’t reached with the Austrian despite the best efforts. Here are the six possible destinations for Alaba should he leave Bayern.

Real Madrid

Zinedine Zidane is understood to be a big admirer of Alaba as the French manager wants to add defensive reinforcements next summer after not spending a buck in the previous window. The Austrian is also open to the prospect of playing for Real Madrid, who are the defending champions of La Liga. Los Blancos’ defence has been fairly inconsistent this season, with Raphael Varane looked out of sorts in most of the matches. Sergio Ramos will also see out his contract next summer with no talks yet over renewal.

Barcelona

Barcelona are another club Alaba is open to playing for but his expensive wages is reportedly proving to be a stumbling block. Like Madrid, Barca’s defence has looked vulnerable this season and manager Ronald Koeman is also eyeing some reinforcements in January.  Alaba without a doubt can be a good fit for the Catalans but it remains to be seen whether they can afford his salary amid the financial crisis.

PSG

Ligue 1 giants have been linked with several defenders following the departure of Thiago Silva to Chelsea last summer. PSG can surely afford the high wage demands of Alaba and hence they can be considered as one of the potential suitors. As of now, Madrid skipper Ramos remains a top target for Les Parisiens.

Manchester City

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are also understood to be one of the clubs keeping tabs on the 28-year-old as they would be happy to sign him as a free agent. Having already signed Nathan Ake and Ruben Dias last summer, Guardiola would love to have a player like Alaba, who can be a good ball playing centre-back as well as a left-back.

Chelsea

With Alaba, Chelsea are looking to repeat what they did last summer – signing two free agents in Malang Sarr and Thiago Silva, who both are defenders. Frank Lampard could go for the Austrian international as his experience in German top-flight over the last decade would be an added advantage.

Manchester United

Manchester United are also in the hunt for Alaba as they have recently made a formal enquiry about the availability of the defender. The centre-back pairing of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof were scrutinised for their lacklustre displays at the start of this season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would like to have a ball playing defender like Alaba at his disposal.
