Cancelo tops the chart of best players, along with Messi, Neymar, Insigne, Lewandowski for top-five leagues

Joao Cancelo-Manchester City

According to Instat, the Manchester City full-back has been the best player in the Premier League this season.

Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo has turned out to be the best player in the Premier League this season, according to the performance index of Instat.

Perhaps, the former Juventus star has the best rating of the entire list, which has no place for stars like Harry Kane and Bruno Fernandes.

The metrics behind the ratings are based on the player’s technical gestures, playing time and the level of the competition they were thrown into each game.

Cancelo has indeed been one of the most significant assets for Pep Guardiola this season, excelling in a new full-back/winger hybrid role.

In fact, the change in role has brought the best out of the Portuguese star, who has racked up some impressive numbers.

Besides his four-goal contribution in 26 appearances, Cancelo has a pass success percentage of around 81 while averaging two shots per game.

The Portuguese full-back has ranked higher above his teammates Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez, who both are equally important to the treble-hunting Man City.

Jesse Lingard has been named in the top five as a result of his productive loan stint at West Ham.

The Manchester United loanee has racked up a total of 9 goals and 3 assists in 11 Premier League appearances for the Hammers, thus injecting a new life to his career.

Ilkay Gundogan, Jack Grealish, John Stones, Joel Matip and Kurt Zouma have made it to the list’s top ten.

The most surprising element of the ranking are the absence of Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku from the list of top players. Both the players have excellent year, as they are in the list of top four footballers along with Robert Lewandowski and Lionel Messi in terms of contribution to goal (number of goals and assists).

Though Lewandowski and Messi have topped the chart in their respective leagues, but Kane and Lukaku are nowhere in top ten.
