Bayern Munich will open their title defence against Atletico Madrid.

Stadium: Allianz Arena

Key Statistics

  • This will be the seventh meeting between two sides in the Champions League, with Bayern Munich winning three of them ( Drawn 1, Lost 2)
  • The Bavarians have won both of their last games against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
  • Bayern won all their 11 games in the Champions League last season before winning the title, an unprecedented record they have achieved.

Bayern Munich

The unstoppable European force will enter into the competition as the favourites for the title once again.

Following a splendid season last term, which handed them a treble, Bavarian have continued their form to this season as well, winning in all except one game in Bundesliga.

Hansi Flick will meet a tricky opposition in Atletico, who upset Liverpool(then defending champions) last season in the round of 16.

Flick has what looks a complete squad at his disposal for the game although he will be without Leroy Sane due to injury.

Robert Lewandowski is currently at the peak of his powers as his goalscoring run looks to have no bounds.

Bayern Munich – Possible line-up

Manuel Neuer, Benjamin Pavard, Jerome Boateng, David Alaba, Alphonso Davies, Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, Thomas Muller, Serge Gnabry, Robert Lewandowski, Kingsley Coman.

Injured players

Leroy Sane, Tanguy Nianzou

Playing against Atlético in the UCL opener is a real highlight. They have one of Europe’s best defences. They also have great quality going forward, so we need to be nice and compact at the back, and put the opposition under pressure.

Atletico Madrid

Atletico had their Champions League dreams shattered by Leipzig in the quarter-finals last season when they were deemed as one of the title favourites.

Diego Simeone’s side hasn’t suffered any defeats in La Liga this season, and their defence still appears to be one of the best in Europe.

Talking about the attack, Simeone has Luis Suarez and Joao Felix by his side, with the former one looking in fine form.

Atletico Madrid – Possible line-up

Jan Oblak, Kieran Trippier, Stefan Savic, Felipe, Renan Lodi, Yannick Carrasco, Koke, Lucas Torreira, Saul, Luis Suarez, Joao Felix
