The La Liga champions are considering a move for Huesca striker Rafa Mir.

Atletico Madrid have registered their interest in signing Wolves outcast Rafa Mir, who impressed for the La Liga club Huesca on loan last season.

According to reports, the La Liga champions are considering a move for the Spanish striker should their pursuit of Antoine Griezmann fail.

Griezmann’s rumours on a possible return to Atletico have intensified after Barcelona decided to put him on the transfer exchange considering his high wages.

A swap deal between Saul Niguez and Griezmann has been making the headlines in recent weeks; however, Barca are having second thoughts about the deal as they are not interested in selling the French man to a direct rival like Atletico.

Now, Diego Simeone’s men are looking at the possibility of signing Mir from Wolverhampton as he was outstanding in La Liga last term.

The 24-year-old racked up a total of 16 goals in all competitions for Huesca last season. He was also impressive for Las Palmas the season prior in the Spanish second-division after finding the nets nine times in 18 appearances.

After impressing at Valencia’s reserves side, Mir was deprived of game time in the first season and eventually moved to Wolves in 2018.

His struggles continued at Molineux stadium, and he had to spend a loan spell at Nottingham Forest before regaining his confidence with his spells at Las Palmas and Huesca.

The Spanish striker is currently part of the national team participating in the Tokyo Olympics, and he starred in the group stage game against Egypt.

Los Rojiblancos have already added a top-quality midfielder Rodrigo de Paul to their ranks ahead of next season and now are looking for reinforcements in attack.
