Ferran Torres closing in on Barcelona transfer

Ferran Torres-Manchester City

Manchester City attacker Ferran Torres has been linked with a move away from the Premier League for weeks now and it appears that the Spanish international is now close to joining La Liga giants Barcelona.

According to The Athletic, the attacker is likely to move to Barcelona for an initial fee of around £46 million.

The 21-year-old joined Manchester City back in 2020 and he is thought to be frustrated with the lack of regular playing time in England.

Apparently, Barcelona and Manchester City are now working to reach an agreement and finalise the move.

Newly appointed Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez wants to improve his attacking options and the Spanish club approached Manchester City towards the end of November.

Manchester City were always open to selling the player provided there is a suitable offer on the table and it will be interesting to see if the move is wrapped up in the coming days.

If Manchester City manage to sell the player for a fee of around £50 million it would help them double the investment they made on him 18 months ago.

Torres has shown his quality in the Premier League and there is no doubt that he could prove to be a quality addition for the Barcelona attack.

Recently Argentine international Sergio Aguero announced his retirement from football due to medical reasons and Torres is likely to replace him and spearhead the Barcelona attack.

The 21-year-old would be an upgrade on the likes of Martin Braithwaite and Luuk de Jong.
