The Argentine midfielder has agreed to move to the La Liga Champions.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Atletico Madrid have finalised the deal with Udinese midfielder Rodrigo de Paul.

Los Rojiblancos have been linked with the Argentine midfielder for a while alongside Premier League clubs Leeds United and Liverpool.

However, the La Liga champions have won the race for de Paul, after agreeing to a transfer fee worth €35m with Udinese.

While stating that the medicals and announcement of De Paul would happen this month, Romano also added that Atletico midfielder Saul Niguez could leave this summer.

Saul’s exit links emerged after he reportedly told Colchoneros that he would call time with them this summer.

Premier League giants Manchester United and Liverpool are understood to be the potential suitors for the Spaniard should he leave this summer.

De Paul will be an ideal replacement for Saul as the Argentine’s rise to prominence over the last two seasons makes him one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe. The prospect of joining hands with his compatriot Diego Simeone at Wanda Metropolitano would be ideal for De Paul’s development.

The 27-year-old joined Udinese in 2016 but has garnered everyone’s attention in the last two seasons after becoming a stand-out player in the Italian top-flight.

Furthermore, he has carried his incredible club form to the Argentine national team and is now being considered as the second-best player after Lionel Messi.

De Paul recently put on a scintillating display against Ecuador to help La Albiceleste reach the semi-finals of Copa America 2021.
