Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid gave a good account of themselves against Manchester United in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The Spanish giants scored early in the game through Joao Felix and were better than Man United in the first half. They missed a lot of chances before the break and could have been at least two goals up when Antoine Griezmann hit the bar.

After the restart, they continued to rouble their English counterparts but were made to rue their missed chances in the first period when Anthony Elanga equalised late in the game.

The result means that they have it all to play for in a few weeks when they travel to Old Trafford for the second leg.

Meanwhile, in the league, they bounced back from a disappointing 1-0 loss to Levante to win 3-0 against Osasuna last time out.

The win kept them level on points with fourth-placed Barcelona, albeit with a game more. With the Blaugrana not playing until later, Diego Simeone’s side have the opportunity to temporarily go above Barca if they win this game.

But the Argentine coach will have to do so without the service of Matheus Cunha (knee injury), Koke (muscle injury) and Daniel Wass (knee injury).

Possible Atletico Madrid starting line-up

Jan Oblak; Sime Vrsaljko, Stefan Savic, Gimenez, Mario Hermoso; Rodrigo De Paul, Godfrey Kondogbia, Hector Herrera; Yannick Carrasco, Luis Suarez, Joao Felix.

Injured: Matheus Cunha, Koke and Daniel Wass

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None

Celta Vigo

Celta Vigo continued their decent run of form last time out as they played out a 1-1 draw with the bottom of the table, Levante.

Though the result would have disappointed them, it still saw them extend their unbeaten run in the league to five games (W2, D3).

They come into this tie sitting in ninth place, just seven points behind the last European spot. European qualification for this campaign will still be their aim and winning this game against Atlético will be a proper test of their European credentials.

However, they haven’t won against their hosts since September 2018 (D3, L3). But drawing their last two visits to Wanda Metropolitano should encourage them while one defeat in five league away matches (W1, D3) suggests they will make life difficult for their hosts here.

Meanwhile, Eduardo Coudet has no injury worries at this time.

Possible Celta Vigo starting line-up

Matias Dituro; Hugo Mallo, Joseph Aidoo, Nestor Araujo, Javi Galan; Fran Beltran; Brais Mendez, Denis Suarez, Franco Cervi; Santi Mina, Iago Aspas.

Injured: None

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None
