Barcelona make contact with Thiago Alcantara over a possible return

The Spaniard was on the verge of leaving Bayern Munich this summer.

Barcelona are interested in bringing back their former star Thiago Alcantara this summer.

According to reports, Barcelona have made contact with Thiago’s agent over a possible summer transfer as the Spaniard is set to leave Bayern Munich.

Liverpool are understood to be one of the potential suitors for the 29-year-old though Bayern have revealed that they are yet to receive an official bid from the Premier League Champions.

The Bavarians are looking for an appropriate fee for Thiago, who appears reluctant against a contract renewal.

In contrast, the former Barca star recently denied the transfer rumours, insisting that he is still a player for Bayern and wants to concentrate on the Nations League.

Meanwhile, Barca are stuck in a dilemma between Thiago and Georginio Wijnaldum, with the latter one preferred by the new manager Ronald Koeman.

Koeman had previously served as the head coach of the Netherlands national team during which he managed Wijnaldum. Now the Dutch gaffer eyes a reunion with the Liverpool midfielder.

Barca also could get Wijnaldum for 15 million pounds as his contract expires next summer. Meanwhile, Thiago is said to be valued at 30 million euros.

The Catalan club recently offloaded Ivan Rakitic while Arturo Vidal is touted to be next in the line.

Besides Wijnaldum, Memphis Depay is another player handpicked by Koeman to replace Luis Suarez, who is on the brink of signing a contract with Serie A champions Juventus.
