Cristiano Ronaldo has been heavily linked with a move away from Manchester United this summer.

The 37-year-old has been linked with a number of clubs recently and the latest name linked with the Portuguese international is that of Atletico Madrid

According to reports via Sportwitness, Ronaldo fancies a move to Spain and he is keen on working with Diego Simeone.

Manchester United have shown limited ambition in the transfer market so far and it is believed that Ronaldo is frustrated with the situation at Old Trafford. He wants to play Champions League football and win trophies.

Atletico will be able to provide him with Champions League football and they are certainly capable of challenging for the La Liga title as well. They managed to win the competition the season before the last.

Ronaldo has played in Spain before with Real Madrid and he should be able to adapt easily and make an immediate impact. However, his history with Los Blancos might make him an unpopular addition amongst the Atletico fans.

Furthermore, he would risk tarnishing his Real Madrid legacy as well.

It will be interesting to see how the situation develops now. There has been contact between the Spanish club and the player who scored 24 goals last season.

Ronaldo has one year left on his United deal and the Red Devils want to hold on to him this summer. Erik Ten Hag wants the player to continue at Old Trafford

The 37-year-old is currently missing the club’s pre-season tour because of family reasons. It remains to be seen whether United can convince him to stay at the club.
