PSG vs Man City: Player ratings for the first-leg of Champions League semi-finals

PSG-Paris Saint-Germain-Neymar-Di-Maria-Marquinhos

Manchester City produced a turnaround win against PSG after back to back goals in the second half, which cancelled out Marquinhos’ first-half strike. Here are the player-ratings.

PSG

Keylor Navas – 5.5

The best player in the previous round from Paris side, Keylor Navas was not at his usual, conceding two goals cheaply.

Marquinhos – 7

The Brazilian defender scored the opener, latching onto Angel Di Maria’s corner early in the match.

Kimpembe – 6

The Frenchman couldn’t contain a clean sheet after City hit two goals in the second half. Furthermore, Kimpembe was kept busy during the second half.

Florenzi – 6

The Italian full-back didn’t have such an impact although PSG dominated the first half. His overlapping was restricted against Premier League leader.

Bakker – 6

Bakker’s importance was also restricted against Citizens

Gueye – 5

The recipient of a straight red card for his foul on Gundogan, Idrissa Gueye had not so a memorable performance, unlike the previous rounds.

Leandro Paredes – 6

Paredes was also far from his best, failing to deliver the typical performances that he had been enjoying under Pochettino’s reign. He was substituted during second half with Herrera, after he saw a cheap yellow card.

Marco Verratti – 6

Verratti was seen defending City’s free kick in the second half, as Mahrez scored the second for City. The Italian lacked a spark on both defensive and offensive ends.

Angel Di Maria – 6.5

Di Maria was at his usual best in the first half, setting up the goal for Marquinhos.

Neymar – 6.5

Neymar started the game on the front foot, forcing two early saves from Ederson. But as the game wore on, the Brazilian’s influence was limited.

Mbappe – 6

Kylian Mbappe, who had been in excellent form prior to the clash, had an underwhelming night in front of goal. While many thought the Frenchman would be prolific against the City – the club which he managed to wreak havoc on during his time at Monaco – that wasn’t the case in the end. He ended up without a shot towards Manchester City goal.

Danilo Pereira, Ander Herrera were brought on during second half of the match. They are not rated here.

Manchester City

Ederson – 6.5

Beaten on an occasion but the Brazilian made some good saves to hold the game together

Ruben Dias – 6.5

Dias grew into the game despite a sluggish first half. And it’s no mean task to keep hold off Neymar, Mbappe and Di Maria.

John Stones – 6.5

Stones was on receiving end after PSG had much of the ball in the first half, but the English defender recovered well after the break.

Joao Cancelo – 6

Cancelo had quite an off game before being replaced by Zinchenko, who put on on a decent display

Kyle Walker – 6.5

Walker continue to gain the trust of Guardiola with some good performances and today was such if not the best

Rodri Hernandez – 6.5

Often found himself overrun by PSG in the first half, but he returned to his best in the second half, playing a strong role at the base of the midfield.

Gundogan – 6.5

The German always tried his very best, with him venturing into PSG’s half often.

Kevin De Bruyne – 7.5

Who else? It was another scintillating display at the big stage by Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian scored the equaliser in the 64th minute, deceiving Navas with his shot.

Riyad Mahrez – 8

Mahrez followed up with a thunderous free-kick to put City ahead and the Algerian must have been waiting for such moments. Though it was said to be a mishit later, it delivered a sucker punch to the home side.

Bernardo Silva – 6

Playing in the whole behind no dedicated striker, Silva was good at dropping deep often but proved futile in creating more chances.

Phil Foden – 7

Guardiola wants to count on the English prodigy in the big games and Foden in turn is not failing to repay the faith every time, let alone tonight.

Oleksandr Zinchenko replaced Cancelo in second half.. He is not rated here.
