The game ultimately ended in a stalemate, with Diego Simeone’s side failing to make an impactful start to this season’s Champions League.
Griezmann left Los Rojiblancos for Barca in the summer of 2019 after the latter one exercised his 120m euros release clause.
The 30-year-old couldn’t live up to his expectations at the Nou Camp, failing to recreate the magic he had done at Atletico.
Barca’s financial troubles saw them lose their talismanic figure Lionel Messi and Griezmann followed him sooner.
Blaugrana president Joan Laporta cast doubt on the French man’s future at the Nou Camp after stating that he was on the chopping block.
As it turned out, Griezmann sealed a loan move to Atletico on the deadline day of the transfer window.
The defending La Liga champions have the option to sign him permanently after his loan spell expires after two seasons.
Laporta also recently claimed that Griezmann has to play 50% of games in order to become a permanent signing for Atletico.
