Griezmann jeered by Atletico fans in the Champions League clash against Porto

The French ace made his first home appearance for Atletico last night since his transfer from Barcelona.

Antoine Griezmann was met with an underwhelming reception from Atletico Madrid fans during last night’s Champions League clash against Porto.

The French superstar made his first home appearance last night since his loan transfer from Barcelona on the deadline day of the transfer window.

However, as soon as he was brought in as a substitute in the second half, a section of Atletico fans jeered him. Even before the start of the game, there was a mixed response from the audience when Griezmann’s name and the number were announced.

The game ultimately ended in a stalemate, with Diego Simeone’s side failing to make an impactful start to this season’s Champions League.

Griezmann left Los Rojiblancos for Barca in the summer of 2019 after the latter one exercised his 120m euros release clause.

The 30-year-old couldn’t live up to his expectations at the Nou Camp, failing to recreate the magic he had done at Atletico.

Barca’s financial troubles saw them lose their talismanic figure Lionel Messi and Griezmann followed him sooner.

Blaugrana president Joan Laporta cast doubt on the French man’s future at the Nou Camp after stating that he was on the chopping block.

As it turned out, Griezmann sealed a loan move to Atletico on the deadline day of the transfer window.

The defending La Liga champions have the option to sign him permanently after his loan spell expires after two seasons.

Laporta also recently claimed that Griezmann has to play 50% of games in order to become a permanent signing for Atletico.
