Pochettino leading the line to replace Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid

Mauricio Pochettino - Favourite to take charge as Newcastle Manager

The French manager has been put under immense scrutiny following the Champions League debacle against Shakhtar Donetsk.

Zinedine Zidane‘s future at Real Madrid is hanging in the balance following the defending Champions’ recent struggles, which culminated in yet another Champions League upset against Shakhtar Donetsk.

According to reportsMauricio Pochettino, who is in the lookout for a new job, has been deemed the favourites to replace Zidane as the manager of the Los Blancos while Raul, the current coach of Castilla, is another name considered.

Pochettino had been previously linked with a move to Santiago Bernabeu during his time at Spurs however a deal never happened.

Madrid also don’t want the club legend and youth ranks coach Raul to push for the first team job given their current circumstances. Instead, they are looking for an experienced manager in Pochettino.

Zidane’s tenure as Los Blancos’ gaffer has brought the club some cherishing memories but their recent results – defeats against Valencia, Alaves and Shakhtar – don’t warrant him a future at Bernabeu.

The defeat against the Ukrainian outfit last night sent shockwaves as the Spanish capital club are at risk of getting relegated to Europa League should they fail to win their final group stage fixture against Borussia Monchengladbach next week.

Nonetheless, Zidane remains steadfast in continuing his journey with Los Blancos as he has openly shrugged off the quitting interests post the 2-0 defeat against Shakhtar at home.

Pochettino has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United but Madrid have also joined the race for the Argentine manager. It remains to be seen whether the former Espanyol gaffer would make a return to La Liga.
