Real Betis and Sevilla have shared spoils after Seville derby ended up in a draw

Real Betis have been held to a 1-1 draw by Sevilla in the local derby as both sides shared points at Benito Villamarin.

It was an important game for both the teams as Sevilla wanted to push for a top-four spot while Betis were coming off a 4-3 defeat against Levante.

The first half saw both the sides fail to find the nets while the visitors announced themselves with a bright start to the second half after winger Suso’s strike.

Betis came up with an instant response as former Real Madrid midfielder Sergio Canales scored the equaliser from the penalty spot. It has been turning out to be a productive season for the Spaniard as he has so far garnered four goals and assists apiece in La Liga this term. His performances didn’t go unnoticed as he was part of Luis Enrique’s Spanish national team in Euro Qualifiers, making two appearances.

The hosts had a great chance to find the lead later, but French star Nabil had his penalty striker denied by Sevilla goalkeeper Bono, who was unsuccessful earlier against Canales. Furthermore, Betis had a couple of good chances to turn the game in their favour but failed to capitalize, and their complacency has let them drop points.

Moroccan keeper Bono was the saviour of Julen Lopetegui’s side, who sits fifth in the league table while Betis are ninth.
