In previous reports, Lacazette said he had “never cut contact” with boyhood club Lyon which is why re-signing was never a problem. Lacazette’s contract expires at the end of June. However, Mikel Arteta took the time to acknowledge his contract extension. Therefore, Lacazette signed for a three-year deal until June 2025 at Lyon.

“It is the agreement that we made with him. That was our position, and our position remains the same – that is what we are going to do,” Arteta added.

“The risk of that happening, it was always there since the moment we made that decision, then it is up to him.”

According to BBCArsenal signed him in 2017. Lacazette captained the Gunners after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Due to devastating losses, Arsenal couldn’t compete in the Champions League from 2016-17. Instead, they will play in the Europa League group stage in 2022-23 after finishing fifth in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Lyon said they were “very proud and very happy” to announce Lacazette’s return to the club he joined at 12, adding a deal “has been the club’s priority for several months”.

During his youth time at Lyon, he scored 129 goals in 275 matches in all competitions after breaking into the first team in the 2009-10 campaign.

Alexandre Lacazette admired Lyon for being confident despite the French side’s failure to qualify for any of European championship

“Even without the European Cup, the club remains ambitious,” Lacazette said.

“I think I have made progress in the game and in my leadership. I want to help the team.”
