Lionel Messi is closing in on a move to Paris Saint Germain.

According to reports from France, the Argentine international has chosen to join PSG on a two-year contract with an option to extend his stay at the club for another season.

The French outfit are looking to secure his signing over the weekend, and they are set to meet with his father in the next few hours to iron out the details of the move.

The 34-year-old was expected to renew with Barcelonabut the Spanish league’s regulations regarding player registration has made it difficult for the Catalan giants to go through with the extension.

The Argentine international is set for a new challenge in the French Ligue 1 league, and he will join up with his former teammate Neymar.

Messi will also be reunited with his compatriots Angel Di Maria and Leandro Paredes.

The player has recently been linked with a move to the Premier League as well, but the likes of Manchester City have distanced themselves from any potential transfer.

Messi’s departure will come as a hammer blow to Barcelona’s ambitions, and it will be interesting to see how the Spanish club copes with his loss.

The Spanish outfit are already dealing with massive debt, and the squad has now been severely weakened.

Barcelona lost out to Atletico Madrid in the title race last year, and failing to win the league next season will only add to their miseries.
