Monaco

Monaco will continue their quest for a place in Europe when they welcome Lyon to the Stadio de Louis II this Saturday.

The hosts come into this tie on the back of a disappointing 3-2 loss to Montpellier in their most recent league outing.

The loss was their seventh league loss of the season, meaning that the Principality side are now just a single defeat short of last season’s total combined tally of eight top-flight losses.

They come into this tie sitting in eighth place, one point behind Lyon and two behind Strasbourg, occupying the last Europa League spot on the league table.

Meanwhile, le ‘Monégasques’ are in good form at home, having won three successive home league games coming into this tie. They are also unbeaten at the Stade Louis II in 11 games in all competitions (W8, D3).

Given that Monaco’s form has been up-and-down this season, new boss Philippe Clement will probably see this game as an opportunity to prove himself at the highest level in Ligue 1.

Possible Monaco starting line-up

Vito Mannone (GK), Vanderson, Axel Disasi, Chrislain Matsima, Caio Henrique, Jean Lucas, Aurelien Tchouameni, Gelson Martins, Kevin Volland, Sofiane Diop, Wissam Ben Yedder.

Doubtful: Cesc Fabregas, Djibril Sidibe, Myron Boadu, Benoit Badiashile, Alexander Nubel, Radoslaw Majecki.

Lyon

Lyon will look to continue their impressive run of form when they travel to Stade Louis II on Saturday.

The visitors are currently on their best run of the season to date as they have not lost since their defeat to Reims on 2 December, a run of seven matches.

More recently, they have been on a run of three wins in a row and came out on top against Marseille in their last league game. In an entertaining game at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais, Marseille took an early lead through Matteo Guendouzi. But Xherdan Shaqiri and Moussa Dembele scored in the second half to secure all three points for Steve Bosz side.

Les Gones have a good record against their counterparts and have not lost Monaco in the league since 2019.

They currently sit in seventh place, one point ahead of their rivals and six points behind the top three. They will be desperate to win this game to keep their chances of finishing within the Champions League spot alive.

Possible Lyon starting line-ups

Anthony Lopes (GK), Leo Dubois, Jerome Boateng, Castello Lukeba, Malo Gusto, Maxence Caqueret, Tanguy Ndombele, Emerson, Xherdan Shaqiri, Moussa Dembele, Rayan Cherki.
