Paris Saint-Germain picked up a 2-1 win over Lyon in the French league earlier tonight.
Goals from Neymar and Mauro Icardi cancelled out Lucas Paqueta’s strike to secure the three points for the home side.
Here at Anytime football, we look at the three major talking points from tonight’s contest.
Lack of cohesion
Despite having a star-studded squad at their disposal Mauricio Pochettino’ side are still lacking in cohesion and chemistry.
The likes of Neymar, Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe are yet to demonstrate a real understanding between themselves and a top-heavy PSG attack struggled to break down Lyon throughout the game.
PSG will have to work on their build-up play if they are to challenge for the major trophies this season.
Dubious penalty awarded to PSG
The French outfit were awarded a penalty on the 66th minute when Neymar was brought down in the opposition box.
However, replays showed that the Brazilian international dragged the defender upon himself and the spot-kick should have been overruled.
VAR decided to stick with the referee’s original decision and Neymar converted from the penalty spot to level the scores.
Lionel Messi substitution
The Argentine international was brought off on the 75th minute when the score was 1-1 and the former Barcelona player was visibly upset with the decision from Mauricio Pochettino.
Messi refused to shake hands with the Paris Saint-Germain manager on the touchline and he was seen throwing a tantrum on the PSG bench as well.
The Ligue 1 outfit have put together an exceptional squad but they have also inherited a number of big egos and it will be interesting to see if Pochettino can handle the dressing room going forward this season.
